CTO’s Blog: Do you outsource your time-service and the trust anchor?

Seriously — where do you get your time from?

Is it a Government source? and if so is it the official Legal Time Source or one from some other agency?

It does make a difference! And does the Government certify your interface? Really? think the answer to that through carefully because its almost always no. The processes you use to connect to federal time sources are all provided by third parties. So how did you validate they work right and work right continuously? Its a legitimate question in today’s digital world.

I bet you never thought about this before but it’s time (pardon the pun). The reality of the ephemeral life is that reliable events in a digital context take continuous evidence for all actions, all reactions and any and all orders which extend into the real world or other financial systems.

That means that sometime in the future you will need to be able to prove records from multiple locations and from a myriad of systems so that events they purport are real will all properly integrate so that key events can be compared to each other for any number of key reasons and not in the current but in the past since you will be defending digital records sometime in the future.

In the US NIST is the legal source of time

For its commercial customers Certichron provides a reliable digital time-anchor service providing NIST time as the source of all US services. In doing this Certichron provides direct access to NIST and other national timing standards to meet all use needs. NIST operates a number of time servers on the Internet for public access. Certichron supports this program by supporting five of those twenty one systems. This unique trusted digital intermediary meets all commercial and legislative requirements for operating both a time-service and a secured data archive for content registration against the time service.

Certichron’s trusted NTP service called SecureNTP™ is perfect as an external trust-anchor for any and all operations whether using software or appliance based NTP servers. Ceritchron’s unique services ensure that all client’s everywhere in the US and all supported international sites get access to the same NIST/NORAMET(UTC) calibrated through the NIST network management infrastructure.

Whether you operate a network of transaction systems split across a hundred cities Certichron can supply evidence of proper time-management for your most important business systems, an enablement which opens any number of digital control based operating models using digital timstamps as key evidence  of properly completed transactions.

Certichron’s  SecureNTP system is the answer to operating a reliable data capture environment everywhere in the US and its the most cost effective solution to to adding trust to time management evidence systems.
