CTO’s Blog: Certichron’s Time Server Network is a mini-NIPRNET style service

The DoD NIPRnet was a unencrypted FOUO service network

For the last twnety years, the DoD operated two networks for communicating inside the DoD and with the DoD partner’s. These two networks were the unsecured NIPRnet and the secured SIPRnet system. Based in needing to up the level of basic security on the Military networks, the NIPRnet system was recently decommissioned in favor of its fully encrypted SIPRnet brother (the Secret Internet Protocol Router network) leaving a void in the deployment of lower-security or other mass-deployment federal resources like time. This service void is what Certichron’s SecureNTP and DirectConnect services support.

Ceating a unified Federal Time Scale and its Standard

There is legally speaking only one US Timebase but funcitonally there is a need to use the time sources from a number of Federal sources. Certichron’s vision of time services are that US Government and other National Timing Authority master timing standards need to be operated as an ensemble so that each time-scale produced can be properly qualified. Certichron’s time-scale is a composite of the NIST time service in the US as a master legal time anchor, and a USNO provided 1PPS disciplining heartbeat. The USNO NTP is also tracked and ‘anded’ into the logging model to create a true composite time service which functionally meets the US National Time Standard, and serves all US Critical Infrastructure use cases.

National Deployment

Certichron’s regional service bureau’s are plumbed with Internet acccess which ties them together for information collection and compartmentalization. NIST calibrates the service centers continuously as part of the NIST Time Server operations practice and Certichron’s private S1 Peering net.

Get your very own connection into the Secure Federal Time Service Nexus

To service it’s key Federal and Governmental users Certichron’s Mini NIPRnet type time service network is a one of a kind in the deployment of the US Timebase for public and private users. Agencies and Beltway Support entities can get secure access to the Federally-certified time services across the privvate NIPRnet style DirectConnect™ type Extranet facility. X9 and DISA-approved time-service models for use in Federal Contractor’s are also fully supported. For more information on SecureNTP and how your Agency can get access to reliable time and logging services for them, contact Sales@Certichron.COM or call us at (800)-511‑2301.
